Visualizing Your Way To E-commerce
Copyright 2003 Tawnya Sutherland

Visualization is one of the most powerful tools you can invoke in achieving a successful business online. Take a moment and do the following things:

  • Imagine your business website online and all the credit card traffic it generates. Really envision it. See what the web page looks like and imagine the customer's mouse pointer clicking the "Buy it " button.
  • Think of that website selling products/services across the whole entire global network. Picture someone in Hong Kong right now, sitting in their leather computer chair, reading all about your product and deciding which colour to buy.
  • Envision the orders piling up daily in your email box. Actually, sit back for a moment in front of your computer, close your eyes, think of what the INBOX of your email looks like with the orders right there waiting to be filled. How many are there?
  • Think of all the money your website makes. Does your wallet have $20 or $1000 dollar wads in it? Close your eyes again and picture yourself on a tropical island sipping your mai-tai on your vacation reaping your online business rewards. Isn't the sunset romantic?
  • Imagine the counter on your web page rolling over to 100,000 hits for the day. What colour are the numbers on your counter?
  • Envision what you say to the person who meets you on the street and says "Wow, I love your website and told my friend Darla to go there and order you product today." What would be your reply?

You Can Have That Business Online!

See, every action must first start in the mind. You've heard the cliché, but accurate phrase, "What your mind can believe, you can achieve." Scientists at Stanford University discovered that the human mind is capable of remote learning, which is the ability to sit in a room and mentally project oneself to another location and actually learn what is happening there. You can do this in your everyday life by practicing visualization. Once you actually have an experience whether in your thoughts or in reality, your mind clocks that in as a real event. So in real time, accomplishing an activity you've "practiced" in your mind (like having an e-commerce business on the Internet) becomes that much easier.

Have you ever heard of Andrew Carnegie's philosophy? If not, you're in for some information that has changed many people's lives over the years – maybe yours will be one of them. If you read any book in your lifetime, read:

As a young man in 1908, Napoleon Hill was approached by the very wealthy steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie and offered to teach Hill the simple secret to accumulating riches if Hill would spread the word. Carnegie believed that fortune, fame and success could be had by anyone who would follow his formula. In fact, he didn't believe true success could be achieved without using his formula. Hill agreed and the result was the timeless classic, "Think And Grow Rich." Here are some lessons from the famous philosopher of success, Napoleon Hill.

Live Life On Purpose, Not By Accident

Decide you are going to have an e-commerce website. You are going to do whatever it takes to reach that goal. Stop being indecisive or hesitating. It is seen as a sign of weakness and doesn't serve you. Once you have a driving force in your life, (making money online) you will see opportunities you didn't see before. People will work to help you. Self-doubt will be replaced with self-confidence. It sounds like a pretty lofty promise, but this clarity dots the history of every famous achiever that ever was.

Thoughts Create Things

Before you ever began reading this guide, you thought to yourself that you want to have a business online. So you started educating yourself and, if you follow what you learn, you will see results. See, everything that was ever created first germinated as a thought. You've heard the phrase, "Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it." That's because thoughts control your actions. If you direct your thoughts in positive directions, you'll reap the rewards.

Most people will never realize even a tiny percentage of their true potential. Hill wrote, "Somewhere in your make-up there lies sleeping, the seed of achievement which, if aroused and put into action, would carry you to heights such as you may never have hoped to attain."

Every Failure Has A Positive Outcome

The mind is a powerful thing. It can work WITH you and it can also work AGAINST you. Negative thinking actually creates negative outcomes! Of course it’s not easy to think positive in the face of failure, but if you look hard enough you’ll find a silver lining. If you believe things will work out for the best, they WILL. You have the power to turn every situation into a win-win simply by thinking positive. We’ve all seen movies where the hero misses his plane and important meeting by seconds, only to find out later that day the plane crashed, killing all aboard. You may not see the positive immediately, but it is always there. Just look from different angles. You’ll see. Napoleon Hill called “faith” a state of mind that could be fed by positive thinking and self-confidence. Having faith (even a little bit) that every failure has a positive outcome will get you through all times, good and bad.

Persistence Is The Insurance Against Failure

Sadly one major cause of failure is largely preventable – lack of persistence. Many potential successes are taken out of the game because they didn't push hard enough or long enough for their goals. You have to honestly estimate the time it will take you to get to where you want to be. Then you must stay persistent through the rough times as well as the good to make it happen.

As a single mother of three, persistence has been my best source of success. An example was finding a home for my family because our other home we rented went up for sale. I was determined to rent the house across the street since it would keep the children in their same schools and be an easier move for myself. I had no job at the time, was freelancing from home, my credit rating was borderline, and I didn't have many past rental references. Not to mention I was a single mom with three kids! Dressed neatly, I went to the open house with $2000 cash in pocket. The landlord showed me around but said that there were many others who were putting applications in as well and even though I had the cash upfront, he had to follow proper procedure with interviews, credit checks, etc. I sat on the front doorstep for two hours filling out the application and waiting. Many prestigious business couples, corporate people and young family applicants viewed the house the full two hours. 23 applications were given out in total. Discouraged but not beaten, I went inside and handed the landlord my application saying "I would take the house." He again looked at me and said he had to go through the complete process of interviewing, checking credit, yada yada and would advise me in a week's time of his decision. I then handed him $2000 cash for a $1200 a month rent. Still he said no. I stood there and gave him every reason why he should rent to me that I could think of. Still he said no. I was almost ready to leave defeated, then turned around and said, "How about you pop over to my house next door and look around, see how neat we are. You can then get a look at how we live and what great tenants we are. If I was a landlord, that would be priority to me, to catch my tenants off-guard and see how they really treat their leased house." He looked at me and replied "Ok, I see no harm in doing that". One hour later, in my kitchen, I signed a lease for one year on a nice family dwelling. I'd like to add that I have used this exact scenerio three times now, having to move 5 times in the past 6 years and it has worked everytime. Persistence DOES Pay Off!

The backside of persistence is desire. You must peg your specific desires about having an online business. Do you just want to show up the competitor with a flashy website? Is it because you know your product/service is marketable? Do you want to set a positive example for your children or significant other by having a successful business? Whatever your desire is, not necessarily someone else's. Once you recognize your strongest desires, you automatically develop a definiteness of purpose and a willingness to work hard. You'll push through barriers and be a success!

Here's how to use visualization to improve your days.

  • Before you get out of bed in the morning, visualize your entire day – what you will do towards having a business online, where you will go, who you will meet. Use as much detail as possible. Actually SEE yourself doing these activities. Are there any obstacles? See yourself solving them. Picture your surroundings. The more detail you use, the more powerful your visualization experience.
  • At the end of the day, visualize what happened. What you would do differently? What worked well? Remember as many sounds, smells and colors that you can. The more details, the stronger the vision.
  • Before you go to sleep, visualize your next day. Think of everything on your schedule for tomorrow hour by hour. See yourself succeeding to having that successful business online!

I see my successful business online everyday I turn my computer on with it's homepage is set to www.mediamage.com

Keep motivated, be persistent and SEE your business online!
